Preparation Methods of Tungsten Copper Functionally Gradient Materials(W/Cu FGMs)


With the development of modern science and technology, it’s demanding for the working materials which uses in the special circumstances.Conventional ceramic, metal and the composite materials have been difficult to meet the demand for its performance under the harsh conditions. In this case, FGMs have come into being. The preparation process of FGMs includes the followings:

1.infiltration methods:Pressing the tungsten powder(or mixed with a small amount of copper tungsten powder) into compact firstly,then sintered tungsten powder into porous tungsten skeleton base yokes with a certain density and strength at a predetermined temperature. Then sintering the metallic copper on reducing atmosphere or vacuum, the sintering temperature should be higher than the melting point of copper, after that tungsten copper composite material obtained.

2.PM:Mix the granulated tungsten raw materials and copper raw materials according to pre-designed proportion,pave layer by layer and pressed into gradient structure prefabricated blocks.And then using the sintering methods of the pressureless sintering,hot pressed sintering,hot isostatic sintering and reaction sintering for producing FGM sintered body.

3.Plasma spraying method: Plasma spraying method use gas as a carrier,blowing the raw material powder into the plasma jet, the powder is rapidly heated,it’s good for accelerating the formation of molten or semi-molten particle beam, the beam impinges on the pre-treated substrate and forming multilayered spraying coating layer.So the FGMs prepared by changing the composition ratio of the raw material powder, plasma jet temperature, feed rate, spraying powder parameters to adjust the organization and ingredient.
