Methods of Improving Tungsten Copper Powder Wettability
As good wettability can improve the gravitation between tungsten and copper powder particles,it seems to add an "isostatic pressure"process that could be viewed overall from the powder sintering process.Therefore,the wettability is an important condition of preparing tungsten copper composite materials.But tungsten-copper composite material is difficult to fully wet that will seriously affect the strengthening during sintering. There are many factors to effect the Wettability of tungsten copper composite materials,but the following methods can improve the wettability of tungsten copper powders:
1.Elevating temperatures,extending the contact time of solid and liquid: When using liquid phase sintering method to prepare tungsten copper composite materials,the wetting conditions is that the wetting angle is less than 90°,and the smaller the wetting angle, the better the wettability. Elevating temperatures and extending the contact time of solid and liquid could reduce the wetting angle, when the wetting angle reaches zero, tungsten grains will be completely covered with copper. However, due to the limited duration of action,therefore the duration of action can be extended by reducing the rising rate of temperatures.
2.As as possible to maximize the nanopowders purity:Reducing the presence of impurities,oxide film,greasy dirt in the powder surface,and appropriately increase the powder particle size. Increasing the thickness of the tungsten powder and copper powder can also reduce the wetting angle When the copper phase is not completely transformed into liquid phase.
