Hydrogenation catalytic property of tungsten disulfide nanosheet is good. It is reported that tungsten disulfide nanosheets have better hydrogenation catalytic property than those of molybdenum disulfide powders. Therefore, WS2 nanosheets are often used as an electrochemical catalyst for hydrogen production.

The reason why tungsten disulfide nanosheets have higher catalytic activity is that WS2 nanosheets have a special structure - stacked loosely monodisperse nanosheet structures, which can provide more bare active sites and facilitate the hydrogen production reaction. The particle size of MoS2 is large, and the stack is too close, resulting in fewer exposed active sites, which is not conducive to hydrogen production. In addition, the catalytic activity of the hydrogen production reaction can be greatly improved by using graphite as a carrier or adding Co as an additive. Well, there are also a few reports that WS2 nanosheets have poor hydrogenation catalytic property than MoS2.
