Molybdenum is a lustrous silver metal found in the earth's crust at 1.5 ppm. In many cases, it is very similar to tungsten, which is often paired with tungsten in the transition series of the periodic table, but their chemistry often exhibits more pronounced differences than expected.
The metal can withstand extremely high temperatures without significantly changing, expanding or softening. This ability makes its engagement in high temperature situations very useful. Typical applications of molybdenum are various, such as crucibles, evaporation boats, propulsion components, glass melting electrodes, high temperature furnaces, sputtering targets, heat sinks.
Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), one of the compounds of molybdenum, is used as a high temperature lubricant. The molybdenum disulfide coating is a solid lubricant based on MoS2 and containing an organic binder. The thickness of the coating is very thin, which does not affect the size and mechanical strength of the parts. Under the action of pressure, the coating is not easy to be squeezed out of the friction contact surface, so the bearing capacity is high. Under various special working conditions such as high temperature, low temperature, high altitude and heavy load, etc., the performance of general grease cannot be adapted, and molybdenum disulfide lubricant can be used for lubrication.
Advantages of molybdenum disulfide coating:
1. Improve the relationship between torque and pressure
It can effectively improve the relationship between torque and pressure of high-end fasteners, so that the fasteners can withstand greater loads and are less likely to loosen.
2. Solve the problem of fastener jamming and occlusion
The surface of the high-end fasteners coated with MoS2 coating is not easy to rust, stick and bite after use.
3. Solve the problem of ultra-high temperature and ultra-low temperature lubrication
At temperatures between -255°C and 300°C, the coating applied to high-end fasteners does not become embrittled and still has lubricating properties.
4. Solve the problem of wear resistance and self-lubrication
Based on the excellent wear resistance and self-lubricating properties of the coating, high-end fasteners can be repeatedly loosened and locked repeatedly without damage to the wire teeth.
5. Solve the problem of anti-rust and anti-corrosion
The MoS2 coating will form a dense and firm lubricating film on the surface of high-end fasteners, which will cut off the contact between the metal substrate and the air, making it less prone to corrosion.
