The compound formed by boron and an element with a smaller electronegativity than it is called a boride. Borides are generally very hard, chemically inert, and often have special physical and chemical properties. They are very important modern new non-metallic materials.
Tungsten boride is usually made by directly sintering tungsten powder and boron. All tungsten boride materials are hard and brittle and have conductive properties.
The main uses of tungsten boride are:
- Pharmaceutical intermediates
- Military hard metals
- Superhard material additives
- Thermal spray materials
