Ammonium tetrathiotungstate is insoluble in water. Its CAS No. is 13862-78-7, the chemical formula of H8N2S4W or (NH4) 2WS4, molecular weight of 348.18, and the relative density of 2.71g/mL at 25°C.
Application
It is applied to classic building block for transition metal sulfide cluster compounds and is recently used in a low-temperature, solid state synthesis of a new series of heterometallic sulfide clusters stabilized with dppm ligands.
Producing Method
Ammonium tetrathiotungstate can be prepared by reaction of tungstate and ammonium sulfide solution. Specific steps are shown as follows:
Step one: Dissolve ammonium tungstate in ammonium hydroxide. The amount of stronger ammonia water is: stronger ammonia water/ammonium metatungstate=1~2/1(ml/g).
Step two: The obtained solution reacts with ammonium sulfide solution. The mole ratio is S/W=4~6/1. The reaction temperature is under room temperature. The reaction time is 0.5~3h. And the static crystallization time is 8~24h;
Step three: Filter, rinse and wash the crystallization with absolute ethyl alcohol. Then, dry the product under room temperature.
Storage
Store in cool place. Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place.
