Micro fine violet tungsten oxide has unique fine needle-like crystalline morphology, and its polymer appears loose pores, which has large interspace and low apparent density. It facilitates the infiltration of hydrogen and the escape of water vapor during the reduction process so that the reduction begins not only on the surface but also in the interior.
Compared with yellow tungsten oxide (YTO) and blue tungsten oxide (BTO), the violet tungsten oxide (VTO) has the following advantages:
1. Smaller apparent density than that of YTO and BTO.
2. The smallest BET specific surface area.
3. The highest chemical activity.
4. The highest generation speed to produce tungsten powder during hydrogen reduction.
5. The finest particle size and fairly stable particle size distribution.
The tungsten powder obtained by hydrogen reduction of violet tungsten oxide has fine and uniform grain size with good dispersity between particles, and therefore it is suitable for preparing ultrafine tungsten carbide. Besides, tungsten powder and tungsten carbide powder made from violet tungsten oxide have fine and uniform grains. And these particles are not easy to grow.
