Ultrafine violet tungsten oxide has been used as raw material to replace tungsten acid and yellow tungsten oxide (tungsten trioxide) for the preparation of super fine tungsten powder (W powder) since 1960s. After that, many countries such as the USA, France, Netherlands and Britain, used violet tungsten oxide as raw material to produce W powder.
Violet Tungsten Oxide Hydrogen Reduction to Produce Super Fine Tungsten Powder
Step one: Weigh 20g violet tungsten oxide; Use 80x50x20 (length x width x height) ceramic boat; Adopt four tube reduction furnace, push the boat under rate 2 boat/30min; Hydrogen flow is 30m3/h.
Step two: Use two band cooling-side, temperature of the three zones is 650°C, 750°C and 800°C. Let violet tungsten oxide stay for 1h in these temperature zones. Reaction pathway is WO3-x → W.
There are more and more reports about good property of tungsten carbide of fine crystalline in recent years. So, people again concentrated on the production of super fine tungsten powder. Also, there are data showing that the consumption of submicron tungsten powder (< 1um) is increasing in the past ten years.
